Breakfast with a Congressman

What if you could have breakfast with a Washington D.C. lawmaker and have an open conversation about anything?  That is just what happened on Monday December 5th at the Allen Street Grill in State College, PA with Congressman Glenn Thompson and eleven Penn State Students in the Ag Choice Scholars Program.
Ag Choice’s commitment to building agricultural leaders is demonstrated by the Scholars program which is designed for Penn State students to gain experience in the agricultural lending industry.  As a member of the Scholars program, I was excited for this unique opportunity.

Farm Credit coordinated the visit where we had the privilege to share about the Scholars program and discuss a variety of current agricultural topics such as the upcoming farm bill, Marcellus shale, new trade agreements, and recent Penn State happenings.
Over eggs and scrapple we heard a glimpse of what Congressmen Thompson does in his daily role as a legislator.  This was my first interaction with the Congressman and I was impressed by his knowledge of agriculture and his down-to-earth personality.  He shared some words to live by of having principle based leadership.  Live each day by the 3 P’s: Passion, Purpose & Principle.
If you are a Penn State Student interested in the Scholars program I would definitely recommend that you apply.
Looking back I am very appreciative of this opportunity and thank Ag Choice Farm Credit and Congressman Glenn Thompson for their continued support of agriculture and building the next generation of agricultural leaders.
